As part of North East Derbyshire’s allocation of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), North East Derbyshire District Council (NEDDC) has created a district- wide highstreet shopfronts Enhancement Scheme. This will provide grant funding to businesses and landlords with street-facing premises to improve their frontage. Its to make the towns centres and high street shop fronts more appealing to visitors.
What will the scheme fund?
The focus of the scheme is to help businesses and landlords who have, or occupy, premises that have a high street shop fronts and street-facing frontage within the district of North East Derbyshire, especially those within town centres and on high streets. The scheme aims to improve the street-facing frontage of these premises, to make them appear more attractive to passers-by.
The scheme will fund the following types of work and/or items:
- Reinstatement of historical shopfronts
- Repairs to stonework/render/brickwork as part of wider shopfront work
- Installation of traditional and retractable shop blinds and canopies
- Removal of unsightly signage with new and appropriate signage
- Restoration/repair/repainting of acceptable or traditional highstreet shopfronts
- Security shutters that adhere to the principles set out in the Design Guide
- Double glazing as part of wider shopfront works
- Disabled access improvements that meet the requirements of theEqualities Act, as part of wider shopfront works
- Appropriate lighting, for example for window displays
- Permanent shop window displays and equipment that improve theshopfront
- Professional fees, such as architects and planning applications, up to a maximum of 10% of project costs (please note – for planning you are required to have a pre-application discussion with our Planning Team)
- Appropriate external art-work
- External planters or seating that improves commercial frontage
- Doors that improve energy efficiency
- Other energy efficiency improvements as part of wider shop frontageimprovements (where other funding is shown to be not available).
If you have a shop or commercial building on a high street in North Derbyshire grants are available to improve your shop front. Grant funding is available for businesses and charities in our town centres who want to make improvements to their shop frontage.
A wide range of improvements are covered by the grants including new signage, window replacements, repairs to brickwork, improving lighting or the addition of new security measures. Small businesses or charities can receive 80% of the costs of improvements through the grant.
The aim of the scheme is to support businesses with premises in Staveley town centre to:
- Improve the overall street scene by enhancing the quality and attractiveness of businesses
- Preserve and enhance the character of the conservation area within Staveley town centre and individual buildings
- Improve access to buildings
- Support and sustain the local economy by providing support to existing businesses to improve their own competitiveness
All applications must be submitted before April 2025.
